San Jose Sharks star Macklin Celebrini will remain captain of Canada's world championship squad, even after Sidney Crosby joined the roster, according to TSN's Chris Johnston.

Crosby will reportedly wear an "A" at the world championship along with John Tavares and Ryan O'Reilly.

Celebrini was awarded the "C" on May 10, just two days before Crosby was added to the team. The players decided that Celebrini would keep the captaincy, despite Crosby's extensive history in the role, Johnston notes. Celebrini will be the youngest Canadian captain ever at a senior-level event.

"Yeah, we'll figure it out," Crosby said after joining the team. "That's not something that we'll need to spend much time on. I'm really happy to be here. (Celebrini has) had an unbelievable year. He looks amazing out here. I can see why he got selected.

"He's got so many great leadership qualities."

Crosby has served as captain in his last six international events, including February's Olympics in Milan Cortina. The last time Crosby wasn't Canada's captain at an event he participated in was the 2010 Olympics.

Celebrini starred at the Olympics in Februrary, recording 10 points in six games. The 19-year-old was named a finalist for the Ted Lindsay Award as the NHL's most outstanding player as voted by his peers after registering a franchise-record 115 points with the Sharks this season.

Crosby and Celebrini played together on a line at last year's world championship. Despite their strong production, Canada failed to medal.

Canada's tournament begins Friday against Sweden.
