Boston Red Sox ace Garrett Crochet doesn't know when he'll pitch in the majors again.
Crochet has been out since April 25 after landing on the injured list with shoulder inflammation and was shut down again in late May with a mild lat strain. The left-hander hasn't resumed any baseball activities since the setback.
"A lot worse than what we thought," the 2025 AL Cy Young runner-up said Wednesday when asked about his lat strain, according to Peter Abraham of The Boston Globe.
Crochet also has "no idea" when he will be cleared to play catch.
Interim manager Chad Tracy said the team will examine the 26-year-old again this week to evaluate his recovery, per Abraham.
Crochet will need to build back up before pitching in minor-league rehab starts. If everything goes well, his absence could stretch to around the All-Star break in mid-July, Abraham notes.
Boston's gone 18-21 with Crochet sidelined. Overall, the club sits last in the AL East with a 27-39 record.
