The New York Yankees are placing designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton on the 10-day injured list with a low-grade right calf strain, manager Aaron Boone announced following Monday's win over the Texas Rangers.

An official roster move will be made prior to Tuesday's game.

Boone didn't provide an immediate timetable for Stanton's return. However, the skipper was somewhat optimistic that the former MVP will be back in the lineup fairly quickly.

"Doesn't look too serious but enough to not want to wait a couple more days," Boone told reporters, according to YES Network.

He added, "It could be (only a 10-day IL stint), but I don't want to put a timetable on it. Hopefully not too long, but we'll see."

Stanton left Friday's game in Houston after sustaining the injury while running the bases. He was held out of three games while the Yankees awaited results of his MRI before deciding whether to place him on the IL.

The oft-injured Stanton played just 77 games last year and hasn't appeared in more than 130 contests since 2018. He previously missed time with a right calf strain in 2021.

The 36-year-old is hitting .256/.302/.422 with three homers and 14 RBIs over 96 plate appearances this season.

Jasson Domínguez, who was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Monday, is a likely candidate to DH in Stanton's absence. Domínguez served as New York's DH on Monday, going 1-for-4 in his season debut.
